The age of LNG is here

Heavy fuel oil is not an option for future shipping within ECAs (Emission Control Areas). Alternatives have to be introduced. A DNV report concludes that LNG is the obvious alternative to satisfy future ECA requirements, particularly for the short sea shipping.

Pathways to low carbon shipping

In the “Pathways to low carbon shipping –abatement potential towards 2030” report DNV has projected the world fleet development towards 2030 and analysed the potential CO2 reduction. The conclusion of the study is that the CO2 emissions by the projected 2030 fleet can be reduced by up to 30% in a cost effective manner compared to a business as usual base line.

2010-07-21First training course certified to the world’s only ice navigation standard

The Ship Manoeuvring Simulator Centre of Trondheim, Norway is the first training centre to have its navigation course certified to DNV’s ice navigation standard. “Representing the world’s only competence standard in this area we are stressing the importance that the additional challenges in Arctic waters must be met with a highly skilled crew,” says Jon Rysst, DNV’s regional manger of Norway, Finland and Baltics.
